Savoy Tavern is it good or will you be taking a pass? Hey Guys! Happy Friday! I have another restaurant review coming at you today! My husband and I recently dined at the Savoy Tavern located on Long Island in Merrick, NY. The restaurant is located on a busy street and most of the parking is street parking. Since we dined there on a quiet Sunday afternoon we were able to find parking in a lot located right by the restaurant.
Initial Service & Decor
When we entered the restaurant it seemed that there were a few parties going on so it was quite noisy but our host tended to us promptly. The decor is beautiful all around.
Food
After we were seated a bread basket was delivered to our table along with some butter. We decided to forgo an appetizer and just order two entrees instead. I ordered the Seafood Fra Diablo. I was HIGHLY disappointed! The shrimp was raw inside, the mussels and clams were only 50% open and the dish all around was BLAND beyond belief. No salt or any other seasoning was detected in this dish. I am a HUGE fan of seafood and pasta but unfortunately, this dish did nothing for me. I did bring this up with the waiter and they did bring me a new plate but the second plate had the exact same issue. At $20+ for this dish, I would say it was a waste of money.
The other entree we ordered was the Fish & Chips, being from the U.K. I have high standards for this dish but I can honestly say that I would not come back here for this dish. The fish was undercooked and once again bland! I mean come on, using a pinch of salt won’t hurt you! The only saving grace was the mediocre fries.
Overall Thoughts:
I definitely would not visit this restaurant again. The service was slow and the food was definitely not anything to write home about. I hate leaving negative reviews for a restaurant but I like being honest and transparent with you guys so that I can save you the trouble that we went through!

Ouch, that’s not good at all. We were just in NY, so I guess I should thank my lucky stars we didn’t stumble across Savoy Tavern for eats while we were there! I’ll be sure to avoid them next time, as well.
The picture looks appetizing but I guess the taste doesn’t justify the cost.
Oh my…I wanted to say that the Seafood Fra Diablo looks soo good. sorry to hear that it was bland and not cooked well. 🙁 What a disappointment when you are excited to eat. 🙁
It sucks that the food wasn’t up to par. I’m surprised about the Seafood Fra Diablo dish. It looks so flavorful and delicious, but looks can be deceiving. Thanks for letting me know! I’ll probably avoid coming here. LOL
Yikes, serving undercooked food is always bad. What a disappointing experience for you!
This sounds like an awful experience! I’m sorry you had to go through that as I know it can put you off going to similar places in the future. The fact that they were serving undercooked food is awful and, honestly, I would write a review to warn others. Or at least to give the management a heads up so they can tackle the issue.
