This past holiday weekend, our family decided to treat ourselves to a culinary adventure at Curry Club at SaGhar in Port Jefferson, NY. The promise of authentic Indian flavors paired with stunning waterfront views was too enticing to pass up—and we were not disappointed!
A Vibrant Setting by the Water
The moment we stepped into Curry Club at SaGhar, we were struck by its vibrant and welcoming ambiance. The walls were adorned with modern Indian art, adding a colorful and lively touch to the dining experience. We also learned about live music offered upstairs, which sounded like the perfect addition to the evening—but, alas, it was fully booked that night. Just check out their huge bar area below!
The Star of the Evening: The Food
Now, let’s dive into what truly made the evening memorable: the food.
Appetizers
We began our meal with the Kebab Sampler, excited to explore a variety of flavors. While a few of the kebabs were on the tougher side, the Hariyali Kebab stole the spotlight. Bursting with herbaceous flavor and cooked to juicy perfection, it was a standout start to our meal.
Main Courses
Our family opted for a spread that would delight any curry lover:
- The Amritsari Fish stood out for its rich flavors, though the turmeric might be a bit overpowering for sensitive palates.
- The Tandoori Mixed Grill offered a solid variety of meats, but it wasn’t the most exceptional rendition we’ve had.
- The Chicken Makhani was a crowd favorite. Creamy, flavorful, and comforting, it just needed a touch more salt to reach perfection.
- The Lamb Rogan Josh delivered on flavor, though the lamb could have been more tender for an ideal texture.
No Indian meal is complete without naan, and Curry Club at SaGhar delivered beautifully. Warm and fluffy, the naan was perfect for scooping up every delicious bite of curry.
Drinks
On the beverage side, the Agni Margarita (spicy) brought a refreshing and fiery kick, perfectly complementing the bold flavors of our meal.
Service and Atmosphere
The service at Curry Club at SaGhar was a bit of a mixed bag. While the staff were exceptionally friendly and courteous, the service itself was slower than expected, likely due to the holiday weekend crowd. That said, the inviting atmosphere and breathtaking waterfront views made the wait more manageable.
Our Verdict
Overall, Curry Club at SaGhar earned a solid 7.5 out of 10 from our family. The food was flavorful, the ambiance was charming, and the views were an unexpected delight. While there were minor hiccups in service and a few dishes could use slight improvements, we’d definitely return—preferably on a quieter evening—to further explore the menu and hopefully enjoy the live music experience.

Wow, that looks really good. I absolutely love curry, although I haven’t had it in so long. I need to try it again soon. Sounds like you enjoyed it pretty well. Hopefully the service was only slow because of the holidays like you mentioned.
